1. Detach a Tab To a New Window

Firefox 3.5 now has it but it was Google Chrome which introduced it. You can easily click and drag a tab outside of the main browser window to a new window.

2. Drag Downloads To Desktop / Folder

Another cool feature similar to the tab detach feature. You can drag and drop downloads to any folder or the desktop directly from the browser.

3. Learn The Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts help in increasing your efficiency while working on the computer. Google Chrome has its own set of useful keyboard shortcuts which you can find here.

4. Use Resources Page To Check Website Load Time

Right click on a web page and click on ‘ Inspect element ‘ . Then click on ‘ Resources ‘ tab to check what parts of a web page are taking time to load. Useful for developers and webmasters.

5. Make the Most Out Of Address Bar

Google Chrome’s address bar works as Google search bar too. Hence you could do things like conversions, calculations and dictionary lookups directly from the address bar.

6. Drag & Resize Text Box On a Web Page

Another cool feature. You can drag any text box at the corner and increase its size. Like in the screenshot below, I can resize the comment box of this blog easily by dragging it downwards.

1. You can easily resize the text area by dragging it on the lower right corner. So if you need to write a BIG comment in a Blog you can easily extend the text area.

2. You can reopen the recently closed tab by pressing “Ctrl+Shift+T”. Alternatively you can check the “Recently closed tabs” section when you are opening a new tab.

3. You can easily search for keywords by pressing either Ctrl+K or Ctrl+E. You can also do this even simpler by typing “?keyword”.

4. You can also use other search engine if you are not interested in Google. You can do this by right clicking on the Omnibar(Address bar) and choose “Edit search engine“. But I personally prefer Google.

5. There are many about pages in Google Chrome. You can type about:memory in the address bar and you will get a report showing browsers running in your machine. It will also display the Details of memory usage by different Google Chrome’s processes. There are many other about pages like about:stats, about:version, about:network, about:dns, about:crash, about:histograms, about:cache, about:plugins, about:hang etc.

6. You can easily drag a window anywhere you like. You can create a new window from your browser tab and you can also add it back to the original window.

7. If you are looking to browse in private mode then you can try the “Incognito Mode”. You can enter the Incognito Mode by keying Ctrl+Shift+N. You can also right click a link and say “Open link in incognito window.”

8. You can directly drag and drop a downloaded file directly from Google Chrome on to the desktop or a particular folder.

9. You can Monitor the resources used by a web page just by right click inside the page and selecting “Inspect element”. You can also switch to “Resources” tab to view the objects load time.

10. There is an easter Egg in Google Chrome. If you type about:internets it will show a series of tubes taken from the tubes screensaver. It works with Windows XP.

To create an application shortcut, open the web page for which you want to create shortcut. Once the page is loaded, click on the page control options button next to settings.

In the settings, select Create application shortcuts item and this will open a pop up asking where to create shortcuts. For example, if you are creating a shortcut for Gmail, then the window displays information that shortcut is created for Gmail. You have the option to create shortcuts on desktop, start menu and Quick launch bar. Once you click OK, application shortcut for Gmail will be created in the locations selected.

Next time you want to access Gmail, double click on the shortcut and Chrome opens Gmail as a standalone window, similar to a desktop application without any tabs or settings. This is nice feature to have and it does not give the impression that you are checking mail through browser.

This is one feature of Chrome which is worth trying. We experienced that Gmail was a bit fast on Google Chrome when compared to Firefox and it was true even for Google apps account.

Have you tried Google Chrome? What are your first impressions? Do share it in comments
Being a Keyboard person. I am always comfortable with using keyboards. I hate to move my hand to the mouse or the touch screen to move the curser. So here i am mentioning some really cool keyboard shortcuts that Google Chrome provides:

1 – Opening The Last Tabs
Lets say you close a tab by mistake and you want to open it again. Fret not. Chrome remembers the last 10 tabs that you closed. Use this combination to open them up.
Ctrl+Shift+T

2 – Opening a Particular Tab
You have multiple tabs open and you want to go straight to a specific tab. Most users would either use the mouse or in Firefox use the cntrl + tab to switch in a sequential order. But in Chrome you can actually jump to the specific tab.
Ctrl+1 through Ctrl+8

3 – Opening Your Home Page
Lets say you want to navigate back to your home page. In stead of using your mouse to hit on home, you can use the following keypad compbination
Alt+Home
