Google Chrome is out and it is already making waves with its simplicity and ease of use. Read our first impressions about Google Chrome if you haven’t done it already. While we definitely see many people who would love to use Google Chrome, you can easily port your Firefox and Internet Explorer data to Google Chrome, including your bookmarks / favorites, passwords, search engines and history.

By default Google Chrome asks users if they want to import data from Firefox, but if you skipped it or want to import data from Internet Explorer into Google Chrome, here is a simple way on how you can do it.

Related: Tools to synchronize bookmarks / favorites between browsers.

In Google Chrome click on the settings button and click on Import bookmark & Settings option.

A new window will open showing you options to import data from Internet Explorer or Firefox, choose the browser and information you want to import and click on the Import button.

A new window should open showing you the progress of the import, once the import is complete the window will automatically close and your data will be available in Google Chrome.
Recently one of my friends showed me this pretty fun trick in which you can simply drag and drop a tag from Mozilla Firefox to Google Chrome and the the tab would open in Google Chrome.

1 – Get your mouse over a Tab in Firefox
2 – Click on it once and drag it to Google Chrome
3 – The webpage would now open in Google Chrome by itself

It would be a good option if one wants to quickly compare how a webpage would like in Firefox and in Chrome.

Check it out yourself.

If are using Firefox beside Google Chrome, this “Open in Google Chrome” lets you send web sites and links directly to Google Chrome from Firefox. It can also be configured to always open certain web pages in Chrome – e.g. *google*, gmail, etc.

Install “Open in Google Chrome” for Firefox 3

1 – Download open-in-google-chrome.xpi on to your desktop and then drag it inside Firefox 3.

2 – Restart Firefox. Then go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Options and browse for the chrome.exe file on your Windows Vista/XP/Windows 2000 machine.

In WindowsXP, Google Chrome installs under \Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\

In WindowsVista, Google Chrome installs in \Users\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\

Open Website directly in Chrome from FireFox

The Google Chrome Firefox extension can also be configured to open a group of website(s) directly in Chrome even if you try accessing them from Firefox.

For instance, you may add “yahoo” to the list and any site that has yahoo in the URL would open in Chrome automatically. That includes “maps.yahoo.com”, “news.yahoo.com”, “yahoo.com” and even “bbc.com/news/yahoo-shares.html” so be careful while picking these wildcards.

Google Chrome peaked when it was released with market share of 3.1%. Since then its dropped down to 1.5% and even sometime to 1.4%.

Google launched its browser in to market in September after so much talk and long wait. According to Global Marketshare Statistics Google Chrome reached its peak on September 3 with market share of 3.115%. However, it started to decline after that till October 27 it dropped down to 1.586%.

Microsoft Internet Explorer is leading the market with 55.973% followed by Mozilla Firefox 33.657% and Safari 4.932%.

However Google Chrome is still in Beta Version and of course the drop in usage statistics are only based on data from one month, so it’s too early to draw broad conclusions. It is quite possible that once Google releases a non-beta version, Chrome will receive higher adoption rates.
